QUITMAN, Texas – The second stop on the 2022 Bass Pro Tour – Toro Stage Two Presented by Grundéns on Lake Fork – was defined by big bass, cold weather, and a nail-biting finish. It was also heavily dominated by forward-facing sonar, which anglers employed both shallow and deep, with a variety of baits. A handful also went “old school” with shallow-water lures like spinnerbaits.
If there’s any smallmouth fishery in the world that’ll test your toughness, it’s Lake Champlain. As one of the roughest lakes on the Bass Pro Tour schedule, it challenged Justin Lucas to stay focused while waves were crashing over the bow. August 14, 2020 — Weighing the biggest bag of the day in big wind, Justin Lucas took down Jacob Wheeler by just 1 ounce to win the Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit Super Tournament on Lake Erie. With 19 pounds, 10 ounces on day four, Lucas totaled 79-2 for the win. Because of the Phoenix FLW BONUS, he took home an additional $35,000 in contingency money for a total paycheck of $160,000.
The 10 anglers in today’s Championship Round of the Covercraft Stage Five Presented by Abu Garcia were a great mix.
The group included a newly crowned Points Champion, three Bass Pro Tour Stage winners, and four past Bassmaster Classic Champions.
It was a solid mix of both seasoned veterans and first-time Championship Round anglers. Whoever ended up winning would have to earn it as this field was stacked from top to bottom.
